SA citizens interested in full-time undergraduate B Business Science or B Com studies in the fields of Accounting, Economics, Finance, Investment Management and Statistics at the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, University of Pretoria, University of Johannesburg and the University of the Witwatersrand.  Only applicants with an NSC with degree endorsement and at least a level 6 rating (70%) for Mathematics and English First Additional Language, or Matric Exemption and a minimum “B” symbol (Higher Grade) for Maths and English will be considered.

Applications will only be considered if completed in full and if all the supporting documents have been included and signed by the applicant. Documents that accompany the application form must be certified:
1.    A copy of your mid-year/June examination results.  If you are not studying this year, send a copy of your latest exam results, together with an explanation of what you are doing this year. This is essential as the exam results play an important role in the selection process.
2.    Matric/NSC results: If you have already completed matric/NSC, include your results, together with your latest tertiary (June) results. This is compulsory for all tertiary students.
3.    Two testimonials: One testimonial from a responsible educational official, e. g. your principal or lecturer and the other by a community, political or spiritual leader. Use the testimonial forms in the application form or attach suitable testimonials.
4.    Write an essay on your life on the page included. Use additional pages if necessary. This must be written by you. Your parent, guardian or friend may write a letter of recommendation.
5.    Proof of salaries* of parent(s), guardian or spouse (*e.g. payslip, letter from employer, sworn statement or tax return statement).
6.    A copy of your South African ID.

Mintek’s Undergraduate Bursary Programme ensures a steady supply of trained and highly skilled technical people for Mintek to meet a major portion of company’s  operational, research and development manpower needs, and also to provide appropriately-skilled graduates to the broader South African minerals and metallurgy sector, as per Mintek’s Mission Statement.

The Mintek bursary covers the full payment of registration, tuition and residence fees, plus an allowance with a commitment to work at Mintek on a year-for-year basis. On completion of studies, bursars undergo intensive training is aimed at developing them into exceptional engineers/scientists.

Vacation Work

Mintek bursars are obliged to undertake vacation work at Mintek at the end of their first, second, and third undergraduate years for approximately 8 weeks. Vacation work affords Mintek the opportunity to impart to bursars the necessary knowledge, skills and experience that is needed for research, development and technology transfer to industry, and to evaluate them as potential employees. Through the placement of the bursars at the various technical divisions Mintek ensures that students’ get the essential exposure to high level project work relevant to the business and the minerals sector.

Mintek hosts only its bursars for vacation work, owing to limited supervisory capacity and project availability.

2016 Bursaries Requirements
In order to qualify for BCMP bursaries for 2016 you must meet the following criteria:
•Be from KZN Province
•Be financially needy (Combined gross income of parents must be less than R120 000), if income is above sliding scales will apply;
•Candidates must not be older than 35 years
•Candidates must attach the following:
•Certified copies of Identity Document, Matric certificate with a minimum of 4 achievement  level/ D symbol in all subjects;

Attach the following supporting documents; Identity documents of both parents, pay slip/proof of income, death/divorce certificate and sworn affidavit stating the legal guardian or marital status of parents.
Applicants must sign when collecting and submitting the application form to the institution where the form was obtained. All Application forms must be hand delivered.
