NRF Internships 2015
The National Research Foundation (NRF) is responsible for the management of the DST-NRF Internship Programme in which unemployed Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) graduates and postgraduates are offered an opportunity to acquire practical work experience through mentoring and exposure to a research environment. This opportunity is also offered to those unemployed graduates and postgraduates who are interested in research management; research support and administration at public higher education institutions and research agencies through a partnership with the Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association (SARIMA).
Applications are invited from candidates who are interested to acquire work experience in the areas of specialisation or disciplines in the nine provinces. Please see the attached document under downloads to get more information about the provinces and areas of specialisation or disciplines.
Internships Qualification
Only university graduates with Bachelors, Honours, BTech, MTech or Master’s degrees may apply. People holding a National Diploma, DTech and PhD need not apply.
Internship Remuneration
Interns will receive a monthly salary ranging between R 5 772 and R 7 691 per month - depending on the level of qualification.
Who Can Apply?
Unemployed South African university graduates and post-graduates in the Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET), Research and Development fields are eligible. Non-South Africans are not eligible for this internship. Applicants should not be older than 35 years old at the time of submission of an application. Candidates with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Duration
The internship programme is offered for a period of 12 months. Successful applicants will be required to sign an internship contract for the duration of the internship period.

Please also attach certified copies of qualifications, academic records and the South African Identity Document. Please note that you may only apply for a maximum of 3 disciplines across all provinces.

CLOSING DATE: 31 October 2014
NB: Applications received after the closing date will not be considered. Correspondence will be limited to short listed candidates only. If no correspondence has been received within 4 months after the closing date, applicants should consider their applications unsuccessful. Successful applicants will start their internship on 1 April 2015.
